A new joint venture
The national Open Monument Day is also being organized in Wassenaar. In 2023, the Historical Society Oud Wassenaer and the Rotary Club Wassenaar decided to organize this day together every year. That the Historical Society is participating in this project needs no further explanation. The Rotary Club Wassenaar is participating because Rotary started in the Netherlands 100 years ago, in 1923. Rotary Club Wassenaar was founded in 1950 and is on its way to becoming a monument of the community.
The municipality, the Mayor and Aldermen, and the Council are enthusiastic about the initiative of the two organizations.
The Historical Society and Rotary Club Wassenaar have jointly established an Open Monument Day Wassenaar Committee. This Committee organized the day for the first time on September 9, 2023. Subsequently, Open Monument Day Wassenaar will be held every year on the second Saturday of September.
In 2026, this will take place on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, when a car route featuring historic cars will be held past the Monuments in Wassenaar, which will subsequently be on display in the renovated center of Wassenaar in the afternoon.

The theme for Open Monument Day in 2026 is: “Resilient Heritage in times of uncertainty and 40 years of Open Monument Day”.
