A new joint venture
The national Open Monument Day is also organized in Wassenaar. In 2023, the Oud Wassenaer Historical Society and the Rotary Club Wassenaar decided to collaborate in organizing this day every year. The Historical Society’s participation in this project requires no further explanation. The Rotary Club Wassenaar is participating because Rotary started in the Netherlands 100 years ago, in 1923. Rotary Club Wassenaar was founded in 1950 and is on its way to becoming a community monument.
The municipality, the mayor and aldermen, and the council are enthusiastic about the initiative of the two organizations.
The Historical Society and Rotary Club Wassenaar have jointly set up a Wassenaar Open Monument Day Committee. This Committee organized the day for the first time on September 9, 2023. After that, Wassenaar Open Monument Day will be held every year on the second Saturday of September.
In 2025, it will be on Saturday, September 13, and on Sunday, September 14, when you can visit the Jewish Cemetery.
The theme for Open Monument Day in 2025 is: “Architectural Heritage.”
